Gauteng Acting Police Commissioner, Major General Tommy Mthombeni has welcomed the arrest of three people who are suspected of being behind the protest, robbed a firearm, cell phone and assaulted the security guard in Benmore on 28 July 2021.

The three suspects were arrested after the incident on the 28 July 2021 in Alexandra, one suspect found in possession of the robbed firearm and two others were arrested for assaulting the security guard.

Soon after the firearm was robbed it was reported to the police, a search operation was launched for suspects which resulted in the arrest of three men in Alexandra.

It is alleged that on Wednesday, 28 July 2021, a group of people blocked the contract site in Benmore, Sandton over non-payment of their salaries.

The three suspects are expected to appear before the Wynburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 30 July 2021.

“This success which comes as a result of swift and decisive action by police and security should send a stern message to criminals that police will come after them. Such acts of lawlessness will not be left unpunished. We will ensure that the perpetrators are caught and get to face the full might of the law, said Major General Mthombeni.
