ATM bombing and murder suspects arrested, Selcourt, Springs

Police arrested two male suspects aged 30 and 35 years for Business robbery, Murder, Possession of unlicensed firearms, Possession of stolen property, Possession of unlicensed ammunition, and Possession of Explosives at Kwa-Thema – Lindelani Informal settlement on 14-02-2018, at about 15:50.

Crime Intelligence driven operations and joints efficient investigations by various role players lead to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of unlicensed firearms, unlicensed ammunition, explosives, and stolen property.

The arrested suspects are linked to the Business robbery and Murder of a EMPD member at an Engen Garage at Selcourt in Springs on 13 February 2018,, at about 21:49, where the member was fatally shot.

Amongst the Units that took part in the operation are Crime Intelligence, Gauteng Flying Squad, ATM Bombing Team, TRT, Provincial Tracking Team, Provincial Rapid Collection Capacity and Kwa-Thema VISPOL members. The good working relations yielded successful results.

Police recovered an AK47 rifle, 9mm pistol, 02 x AK47 magazines, 03 x 9mm magazines, large amount of AK47 rifle and 9mm ammunition, explosives, coins presumed to have been stolen, false number plates, and cigarettes.

The Cluster Commander Major General Girly Mumsy Mbele expressed her gratitude for the sterling efforts conducted by all role players.

The arrested suspect will appear before Springs Magistrate Court soon.
