ATM Bombers in shoot-out with police

Police confirmed that a South African police vehicle has been damaged in a shoot-out with fleeing ATM bombers in Zola, Soweto. Early on Tuesday morning, the police were alerted to an ATM robbery at an Engen garage in Zola North.

The police arrived, and when they confronted the suspects, a shoot-out occurred. Apparently nobody was injured.

There was no mention of how many offenders were involved with the ATM bombing. The suspects managed to get away. The police have opened a case of malicious damage to property and ATM bombing.

Where do these criminals get the explosives from? One thought emerges that the robbers steal explosive from mines. Illegal weapons, explosives and so much other harmful arms are in the hands of dangerous people. Well, this is South Africa, and crime is on the increase. The police no doubt have a difficult job to do by keeping criminals off the street, but unless the government intervenes, there will be no immediate solution. It is the desperate unemployed people, the gangsters, and the poor drug users who all contribute to the crime level being so high in South Africa. Government intervention is needed urgently.

There has been an shocking increase in the number of ATM bombings over the years. ATM’s are an easier target than robbing a bank. Cash in transit vehicles have also become harder to hijack, and so the perpetrators will find ways and means to get the money.
