A dedicated team comprising of South African Police Service Units and other law enforcement agencies continue to intercept hard-core criminals while on their way to commit serious and violent crimes.

On Monday, 8 November 2021, in Bedfordview, five suspects were arrested, three firearms recovered and two high performance cars fitted with false registration numbers impounded after the team cornered a gang suspected to be on their way to commit robbery.

One suspect is linked to a Cash-In-Transit Robbery that occurred in July this year at a mall in Pretoria.

Information was received about an armed gang that is going to commit armed robbery around the Johannesburg area. The usual team comprising of Crime Intelligence, Ekurhuleni Central, Benoni Flying Squad, DPCI TOMS, Gauteng Traffic Police Saturation Unit, Ekurhuleni District Operations Team, Tracker Connect, Bad Boyz Security and BSG Security came together to intercept the gang.

A VW GTI Golf 5 and Toyota Hilux that matched the description given were spotted traveling to Bedfordview direction. Both vehicles were stopped and a search was conducted.

Three unlicensed firearms loaded with ammunition were found, together with balaclavas, reflective jackets, two way radios, hand gloves, grinder and other tools. It was revealed that the cars are fitted with false registration plates.

All five suspects were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition amongst other crimes. The cars used by the suspects were impounded for further investigation.
