At about 01:35 one of our field managers was at another venue in Elandsdrift when he heard three gunshots close to where he was.
He reported the gunshots to the control center and said he was going to take a drive through the area.
Some time after the gunshots another security company’s reaction officer phoned the Iron Fist Squad and asked for urgent back-up as their client just had an armed robbery and the suspects also shot at him.
The Iron Fist Squad as well as the specific Tactical unit reacted to the request for assistance. On arrival the other security company’s guards reported that one of them was stationed inside the guard house while the patrolling guard went to do his rounds.
As soon as he returned and opened the guard house door he was closely followed in by four armed suspects. One of the suspects fired one shot in their direction, narrowly missing them.
They then tied them up with their shoe lases and a kettle cord. They also robbed them of their belongings.
The suspects then went to a cottage, broke down the door and held up the six occupants inside the cottage. They ransacked the cottage and took cash, jewellery and cell phones.
As the other company’s reaction officer drove into the property to attend to the complaint the suspects fired several shots in his direction.
They fled through the veld towards a squatter camp in the area.
According to the victims they were all Zimbabwean citizens.
