Last night, 10 July 2018, just after 22:00 the female resident was watching TV with her elderly mother and her two children were playing in the house in Elandsfontein, Lanseria.
She heard strange noises and thought it was the children. The children were told to quiet down. The daughter replied that it was not them but that suspects are at the glass sliding door trying to open it! The elderly woman followed by her daughter went to investigate.
The suspects by then had almost forced their way through the door. She ran to the door leading from the interior of the house to the garage. She attempted to open the garage door but it was too heavy. By then the four armed suspects were already inside and they held up the granny and the children and forced them into the lounge.
The suspects wore balaclavas and gloves and were dressed in dark clothing. The resident decided to go back to her mother and children as she feared for their lives.
The suspects tied the two women up with cell phone cords and they were made to lie down on their stomachs. The two little ones were not tied up but told to lie down as well.
Two heavily armed suspects kept watch over the family while the other two ransacked the house. They ripped the Flat screen off the wall and really went through the whole house to loot anything of value. They fled the scene and the children untied the two women. The resident went to the main gate to summons help.
We were there in a matter of minutes and assisted the family. The police and EMS were notified however nobody was physically harmed but severely traumatised. Entry was gained through the palisade fence after they breached the electric fence. The gang is well organised and even brought their own tools. They spoke in a Zimbabwean accent.
Informers have already been tasked to try and obtain information about the suspects.
