At about 19:00 last night, the Drift Reaction control centre received a call from a patron requesting urgent assistance as there had been an armed robbery at a business in Muldersdrift.
Tactical units reacted and on arrival they found the door and security gate of the establishment standing wide open. They knew the caretaker should be at the premises, however they could not find him. The caller had since driven off.
They immediately started looking for him and later saw him running at them from the veld. He said he was overpowered by three armed suspects who held him up and made off with expensive equipment as well as an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects even took his panic button and cell phone.
Although very shaken up, he was not harmed.
SAPS Muldersdrift opened a case of armed robbery and they are investigating.
As we are gearing up for the “silly season” please do not keep large amounts of cash in your register. Rather remove the cash as soon as it exceeds R500. Don’t get caught with a register filled with cash.
