Police arrested a suspect following an operation in the Johannesburg CBD targeting the illegal trade in counterfeit goods. Police together with officials from brand protectors acted on information and pounced on a building in the inner city where they confiscated counterfeit goods worth an estimated value of R9 million pending final determination by the brand holders.

The goods that include trousers, t-shirts, running shoes, belts and track pants from local and international brands were packed in big bags and found in storage units on different floors of an eleven-story building. Fake labels and branded stickers were also found during the raid.

Gauteng police will continue with these operations in the Province and are asking the community to cooperate and furnish information about people that are storing and trading in counterfeit goods.
