Police arrested a 43 year old male for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at the corners of 9th Avenue and Bird Street on 16 November 2019 at 13:00. Police received a tip-off from the community members about a suspicious white VW Polo parked in the above mentioned streets.

Police rushed to the scene and found a vehicle with only a driver inside. They searched him and the vehicle; police recovered a firearm with no serial number and live rounds of ammunition under the carpet of the vehicle. He failed to produce a license to possess a firearm.

The firearm will be sent to ballistic testing to ascertain if it was used in the commission of other serious and violent crimes. Investigation is underway and the suspect is appearing on 18 November 2019 in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.

Johannesburg District Commander, Major General Masha commended the community for being our eyes and ears in the fight against crime. He urges the community to continue working with the police in providing information concerning crime in their precinct.
