ANC MP Faku to hear outcome for leave to appeal fraud conviction
Israel is angry with the ANC

Convicted fraudster and former Buffalo City Metro mayor, Zukisa Faku, will hear the outcome of her application for leave to appeal her conviction and sentence in the East London Regional Court on Thursday.

Last week, Faku was sentenced to three years’ house arrest and community service after she was convicted on nine counts of fraud.

On September 28, the African National Congress (ANC) chief whip Jackson Mthembu said Faku would lose her seat in the National Assembly after she was sentenced.

At the time, Mthembu said the ANC would immediately start the process of finding Faku’s replacement.

He added that the ruling party agreed with the court that Faku abused her position of trust when she misused a municipal credit card while she was mayor of the Buffalo City municipality.

Faku misused the municipal credit card to buy perfumes, sunglasses and other luxury items during a trip to Turkey in 2010.

The East London Magistrate’s Court found her guilty and convicted her on nine counts of fraud in March this year. The court found that she “abused” her position of trust as the executive mayor.
