An Airlink flight from Harare to Johannesburg almost ended fatally when two of the plane’s four engines were blown out by an explosion.

The incident took 45 minutes after liftoff and passengers spent a further hour in fear while sparks and smoke came out at the engines.

An emergency landing was made at Johannesburg International Airport, and no passengers or personnel were injured.

The cause of the explosion and fire in the engines is not known.
