AfriForum welcomes conviction of Liyaqat Mentoor's murderer

Onke Mashinini was on 13 September 2019, found guilty in the South Gauteng High Court for the murder of Liyaqat (Lee) Mentoor, as well as obstructing the course of justice and robbery with aggravating circumstances. AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit continually supported the family during the court proceedings to ensure that justice was done.

Lee was allegedly last seen on 15 March 2018 outside his grandmother’s house in Roodekrans.

The Mentoor family approached AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit because they felt the police’s investigation surrounding the three year old Lee’s disappearance wasn’t initially done thoroughly.

“AfriForum welcomes the court’s judgement and we are satisfied that our involvement in the case contributed to justice prevailing,” says Nantes Kelder, Investigating Officer at AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit.

Kelder furthermore complimented Adv. Paul Schutte, the Public Prosecutor, on a successful prosecution.
