On Saturday, 3 May 2025, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Tshwane continued its ongoing crime disruption efforts by conducting targeted operations in specific areas across the district.
Under the leadership of Major-General Samuel Thine, District Commissioner of Tshwane, a multidisciplinary law enforcement team were assembled, comprising of SAPS members from stations across the district, Department of Home Affairs and the Gauteng Traffic Wardens, executed this coordinated operation.
These efforts led to the arrest of 288 suspects for a range of offences. The operation also included the continued apprehension of wanted individuals, an increased visible policing presence through the strategic deployment of officers and resources, and the enforcement of liquor regulations in high-risk areas.
Tshwane detectives arrested 235 suspects for various offences, including 72 for gender-based violence, 4 for murder, 1 for armed robbery and 26 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Two operational teams conducted compliance inspections and enforcement actions in the western areas of Mamelodi and Eersterust. These efforts resulted in the detention of 12 undocumented individuals, who are currently undergoing legal processes related to deportation.
A total of 378 individuals and 286 vehicles were searched with 96 individuals being processed to determine whether they are wanted for any offences during the operation.
Police also conducted searches and patrols at 16 identified premises and known crime hotspots, which led to 10 arrests for drug possession, and the confiscation of 14 sachets containing various illicit substances.
20 individuals fined and arrested for public drinking, 1 person for drunkness, and 8 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Liquor compliance inspections were conducted at 6 establishments, of which 3 were shut down for non-compliance with the Liquor Act. A total of 530 430 ml of alcohol was confiscated.
