Between 17 April and up to 15 June, Scientology Volunteer Ministers have sanitized more than 200,000 taxis from 9 ranks of Gauteng at their own cost and just to protect the citizens during the various stages of lockdown.

From the beginning of the lockdown, Scientology Volunteer Ministers became known for sanitizing facilities of essential services and buildings, they are responsible for – government offices, police stations, shelters, home for elderly, orphanages, and more to protect those essential services and the vulnerable and to assist in reducing the spread of the coronavirus. But as the country went to level 3 and winter fast approaching, they became concerned about the virus spreading further and faster through taxis.

Since 17 April, Scientology Volunteer Ministers have been working with the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport, targeting taxi ranks as a priority.

They first sanitized a few hundred taxis a day, escalating to a few thousands rapidly. Now, with the 286 volunteers at work daily and their new powerful fogging machines which they just acquired last week, they are now sanitizing up to 13,000 taxis a day and expanding their activities from working in 9 main taxi ranks to now covering 14 of them.

“While at the very beginning, we first got sanitizing equipment to protect ourselves, our members and our guests, the word spread like wild fire that we could help and we are now assisting thousands and thousands daily,” said Sandile Hlayisi, Public Affairs Director for the Volunteer Ministers.
