Two men Nkosinathi Mazinyo Ngwenya aged 28 years old and Nkosinathi Moyo 30 years old who were terrorizing the community of Zandspruit informal settlement were sentenced at the Johannesburg High Court on 12 December 2017, to four life imprisonment and more than 100 years for murder, attempted murder, house robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms.

Police arrested the accused in August 2016 after a community member who was tired of crime in Zandspruit gave information about the group of men who were killing and robbing people in the area as cases were reported but there were no suspects in most of the cases.

Police formed a team to trace the suspects and they were arrested. About 90 witnesses testified against the accused.

Police would like to thank the community and to urge them to continue giving information about the crimes committed in their areas. In the meantime, police will continue with disruptive operations with the aim at thwarting attempts by criminals to make communities live in constant fear.

The safety and security of the community remains a number one priority for the Police in the Province.
