Gauteng police arrested more than 1700 people and seized more than 20 firearms during intelligence driven operations over the weekend of 12 and 13 August 2017.

These arrests can be attributed to partnerships and collaboration between the police, other law enforcement agencies and the community. The community is responding positively to the call of reporting crime to the police as it happens.

The operations conducted included tracing of wanted suspects, raiding of illegal liquor outlets, roadblocks, stop and searches.

The 1700 criminals arrested in Gauteng during the intelligence driven operations will have to answer for crimes ranging from armed robbery, hijacking, murder, possession of drugs, rape, assault, theft, possession of unlicensed firearms and business robbery.

The arrested suspects will appear at different Magistrate’s Courts in the province from 14 August 2017.

The police would like to thank the community’s continued support and involvement in the fight against crime. It is through such collaborative efforts that the level of crime can be reduced.
