Police arrested ten suspects linked to the stoning and killing of 10 illegal miners in Matholeville, Roodepoort. The Team assembled by the Provincial Commissioner to investigate this murder followed information received about the location of the suspects.
Upon arrival at the area, the illegal miners started shooting at the police and police returned fire. Two suspects were shot and eight others were arrested.
During the arrest, two unlicensed firearms were recovered. The firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine if they were used in other crimes. Police will also profile all the suspects to determine whether they are linked with other cases.
The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela commended the work well done by the Provincial Organized Crime Unit.
