Gauteng police ask public to help identify dashcam robbers

Gauteng police have asked the public to help track down five armed men who cornered a Chinese woman at an intersection and robbed her on Tuesday.

“We are appealing to the community to assist us in identifying the suspects,” spokesperson Tsekiso Mofokeng said.

Three armed robbers were caught on camera when they robbed the woman in her car in Kensington, Johannesburg, on Tuesday around 11:00.

A dashcam video of the robbery has gone viral.

The woman was sitting in her car at a traffic light when armed men wearing balaclavas jumped out of a silver Audi stopped in front of her. The video shows them pointing guns at her before disappearing off screen.

The woman was not injured during the robbery, which happened in Langerman Drive.

Mofokeng said the men stole the woman’s handbag.

“Five suspects in an Audi cornered a female Nissan Fortuner driver. They jumped out and pointed… a firearm and took her bag, which had a wallet, bank cards and R30 cash. They then fled the scene,” Mofokeng said.

An armed robbery case has been opened.
