Front National Western Cape calls for action after fatal attack on a policeman on the N2

Front National issued an urgent appeal to the Western Cape Commissioner of Police, Major General Thembesile Patekile, to sharpen up patrols and appoint more vehicles and staff to patrol the section of the N2 from the Cape Town International Airport to Somerset West.

This follows yet another incident where criminals used bricks to bring a vehicle to a standstill and then attacked the motorist. In the latest incident on Wednesday morning, a 50 year old Warrant Officer of the SAPS Commercial Crime Unit was stabbed to death near the Baden Powell Rd turn off.

Last week a similar incident occured when a motorist from Somerset West was stabbed after his vehicle was damaged by bricks in the road near the R300 turn-off. On 25 May this year a well-known Cape Town DJ suffered a similar fate and on the 18th of August last year a 29 year old electrical engineer was also attacked and stabbed. It is clear that this has been a burning issue for a long time and it is difficult to understand why it hasn’t been properly addressed by either the SAPS or the DA Mayor of Cape Town, Patricia de Lille.

The N2 is the main route city bound from the Helderberg, while the R300 is the main northern arterial between the N2 and the N1. It is of vital importance that this route be safeguarded against crime, which is now costing the lives of innocent motorists.

Front National also wishes to express our sincere condolences and prayers with the family of the police officer who died on Wednesday.
