A 29-year-old woman is facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition after Bloemfontein Flying Squad officers intercepted a suspicious vehicle during a routine checkpoint operation on Saturday evening.
The arrest occurred on 30 May 2026 at approximately 19:00, when members of the Flying Squad established a Vehicle Check Point (VCP) and flagged down a vehicle for inspection. During initial engagement with the occupants, officers noted signs of nervous and suspicious conduct from the passengers. In line with standard operational procedure, all individuals were asked to step out of the vehicle to allow for a tactical search.
The search yielded one (1) .38 caliber revolver and five (5) live rounds of ammunition. Both the firearm and the ammunition were found in the possession of the 29-year-old female passenger. She was placed under immediate arrest and detained on charges relating to possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The suspect remains in police custody and is scheduled to make her first appearance in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court shortly. Investigators continue to pursue further lines of inquiry related to the case.
