Assailants of the 38-year-old victim who was followed, overpowered and gang raped before she was murdered were sentenced to five life terms by Bloemfontein High Court.

On the 28 January 2018 at about 02:00 the victim visited a nearby tavern and bought a beer then left. She was unfortunately followed by four unknown males and was overpowered at an open field behind Eskom Substation in K9 Section Kutloanong, Odendaalsrus. The victim was gang raped by three suspects, her throat was cut and she was hit several times with a rock on the head.

A passer-by saw a naked body of a woman and called Odendaalsrus police. A case of rape and murder was registered for further investigation. A mother of one of the suspects came forward and told the police that she had discovered blood stains on the pants of her son. A 22-year-old suspect was arrested.

On 29 January 2018 members of Welkom Flying Squad spotted a taxi that was allegedly boarded by the two suspects and they were arrested.

Intelligence led information was followed and the fourth suspect (18) was arrested. The four suspects who were members of “STOUTE VAN ALLES” gang were found guilty for murder and rape and sentenced as follows:

1. Accused number one turned a state witness
2. Erasmus Ramarapetwa Mohlomi (25) was sentenced to two life terms for rape and murder
3. Borakkie Dan Mofokeng (24) was sentenced to two life terms for rape and murder
4. Lebaka Andries Mokhoje (20) to serve life for rape.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Free State, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane welcomed the sentenced and applauded the arresting as well as investigating officers for the sterling work in ensuring that these gangsters are totally removed from our society.
