Woman found strangled in her home, Winburg

On Saturday, 24 July 2022 at about 15:45, Winburg Police were summoned to a scene after being alerted by the neighbours of a couple residing at a house in Voortrekker Street Winburg.

Members swiftly responded and upon arrival at the scene, members found all curtains, doors and windows of the house closed. The Neighbours reportedly became concerned when they did not see the deceased after failed attempts to contact her on 22 July 2022.

The neighbours further contacted the husband and he reportedly informed them that his wife was in Pretoria.

Upon closer inspection members found that the door was forced open. The body of a woman was found in the house. She had visible strangulation marks on her neck and arms and was covered with a blanket.

The husband was nowhere to be found. The deceased was identified as the late Me. Nomathemba Sekonyela. The sister of the deceased in Pretoria has been informed about this incident.

A case of murder was registered for further investigation.

Winburg Police are on the look-out for the husband, the former Police Constable Teboho Sekonyela who is believed to assist in the investigation.

He is driving a sky blue Volkswagen Polo with registration number HBH 073 FS.

Anyone with information leading to the tracing of the Husband and sedan vehicle can contact Detective Sergeant Lizelle van der Westhuizen of Winburg Detective Services at cellphone number 082 466 8875 or Police Emergency number 08600 10111.
