Welkom police arrest man for possession of unlicensed firearms

The vigilant Welkom Public Order Police Unit arrested a 48-year-old suspect at Mantsubise area of Monontsa village in Qwaqwa on Friday 28 October 2022.

On 28 October 2022 at about 19:30, the members were in Phuthaditjhaba when they received information from community members about a person who was in possession of unlicensed firearms at Mantsubise area in Monontsa Village Tseki, intending to leave the Republic of South Africa to Lesotho with the firearms.

The members reacted swiftly and went to the suspect’s house.

The suspect was found and while searching his house, the members found 177 ammunitions, three firearms and six bags of dagga with an estimated street value of R60 000-00.

The suspect was arrested and charged for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and dealing in dagga.

He is expected to appear in court on Monday on these charges.
