An armed robbery was reported by Matjhabeng Traffic department and through an effective activation plan and lock down, seven suspects were arrested and two vehicles confiscated.

On 20 December 2019, at about 09:00, an armed robbery was reported at a bank where a person was robbed of cash, intended to be deposited. Members gave chase to Fifth street Industrial site Welkom, where a white Polo sedan with three suspects were intercepted and money was also seized.

A preliminary investigation was done by the team until the fourth suspect was arrested in Themba, Thabong. A look-out was conducted for a black BMW with North West registration numbers which led to the arrest of three more suspects.

The suspects, who are between 24 and 57 years of age, will appear in court soon.

“These arrests and seizure of cash robbed, is an indication that we are turning the tide against crime. We will continue to squeeze crime to zero. My appreciation goes out to all members who worked together as a team in their swift reaction and ensuring suspects were brought to book to face the full might of the law,” said the Acting Provincial Commissioner for Free State, Major General Solly Lesia.
