Twenty towns in the Free State are experiencing a water shortage, or that the water provided is not hygienic.
It appears that the same problem as elsewhere in Africa is experienced as a result of water purification plants failing or not functioning at all. Staff who are not competent to manage plants make the problem even bigger as maintenance of equipment and pipes do not exist.
ANC-managed municipalities have dropped the infrastructure because they have not done maintenance for the past 23 years, and use the money to increase their own salaries excessively.
