An 11-year-old girl was repeatedly raped by her uncle, which landed him in jail.
In May 2009, the father of an 11-year-old girl went to the Mangaung police station to open a case after he heard how his daughter was repeatedly raped by a family member.
A case of rape was opened and transferred for further investigation to Sergeant Sando Von Willing from the Mangaung Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit. Working with Prosecutor Michelle Nel, the suspect was traced and arrested and charged with rape.
The father of the victim heard that his eleven-year-old daughter was raped by the suspect, who is the husband of the victim’s aunt. The victim told her aunt that she was raped on several occasions by the 48-year-old suspect, who threatened her not to tell anyone about this matter.
The case was finalised in the Bloemfontein Regional Court and the suspect was sentenced to five years’ for sexual assault and life imprisonment for rape. He was declared unfit to work with children. His name was also entered into the National Register of Sexual Offenders.
