In a horrific accident between a passenger bus and a light motor vehicle on the N1 approximately 35km’s south of Bloemfontein two American citizens were killed and another three persons sustained injuries ranging from serious to critical after they collided head-on late Friday evening.
The two American citizens were in the light motor vehicle and were killed instantly.
The bus driver and stuardess were trapped and had to be freed from the wreckage using jaws of life. The assistant driver also sustained serious injuries, but was not trapped. Fortunately none of the passengers in the bus sustained any injuries.
Traffic on the N1 was disrupted for some time while rescue and clean-up operations were in progress.
Various services attended the scene.
