Late on 9 June 2017, Netcare 911 paramedics were called to a collision at the intersection of Koppie Alleen and Jason Way near Riebeeckstad in Welkom. Reports from the scene indicate that a car with two occupants collided with a bus.
Exact detail to the cause of the crash and preceding events is still speculative and will form part of the police investigation.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and found accident debris and the twisted frame of the vehicle, consistent with that of a high impact collision, scattered over the roadway. After the people were examined it was found that the two people from the car tragically died on impact. The occupants from the bus escaped uninjured.
