Heidedal neighbourhood watch working with police crime intelligence uncovered a group terrorising communities with electricity cuts.

On Wednesday, 08 November 2023 at about 06:00, Heidedal neighbourhood watch, working together with Heidedal police and Centlec investigators, swiftly reacted to the information that led them to a quarry behind the local shopping mall.

It is alleged that on arrival, the team found two suspects, aged 33 and 34, busy burning electricity copper cables. Members also found empty copper cable casings used to cover high-voltage transmitting cables worth an estimated value of R4 million.

The two, who are undocumented persons and in possession of possibly fake identity documents, were arrested for tampering with valuable and critical infrastructure as well as contravening the Immigration Act.

They will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court soon.
