Two people have been arrested for possession of unlicenced firearms and ammunitions on two separate incidents of domestic violence and another of a person caught at Ficksburg Port of Entry.

On Wednesday, 03 January 2024 at about 14:30 the Ficksburg police together with Customs arrested the suspect at Ficksburg Port of Entry after he was found in possession of unlicenced firearm and ammunitions inside his carry bag which was discovered through the scanner. The bag was noticed by customs member when processing the bag through a scanner and picked up the firearm and handed suspect over to the police. The 9mm pistol with seven live rounds was seized and suspect was arrested as he was travelling from Lesotho into South Africa. The 24-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Ficksburg Magistrate Court on Friday, 05 January 2024 facing charge of possession of unlicenced firearm and ammunitions.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, 03 January 2024 at about 18:20 in Petrus Steyn police seized a .38 special revolver from the 36-year-old man who was reported to be threatening his wife. Due to fear of possible fight between them, she came to report the matter to the police. The police went to the suspect home and found firearm hidden under mattress and couldn’t produce any licence. The firearm it’s believed to be that of his deceased father. It was confiscated and two live rounds also seized.

The suspect is expected to appear before Petrus Steyn Magistrate Court on Friday, 05 January 2024 for possession of unlicenced firearm and ammunitions.
