Two male suspects, aged 19 and 44, were arrested on Thursday for possession of illicit cigarettes in Viljoensdrif.
The arrests took place on *14 August 2025* at approximately *10:30* after members of the Sasolburg Highway Patrol Relief A and Viljoensdrif CSC Relief C conducted a Vehicle Check Point (VCP) on the R82 near Country Butchery, Viljoensdrif.
During the operation, authorities stopped and searched a white truck with Lesotho registration plates. Upon inspection, police found boxes of illicit cigarettes hidden behind boxes of cooking oil.
A total of 400 boxes of illicit cigarettes were confiscated, with an estimated street value of R3.1 million.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of possession of illicit cigarettes.
