The Welkom Public Order Police Reaction Team deployed in Bethlehem engaged in an operation with Transnet targeting copper theft.

They went to the scrapyard and requested to search. The owner gave permission and whilst searching, copper cables were found hidden with plastics bags and were positively identified by Transnet as their product.

81 Pieces of copper, weighing 22,7kg were confiscated.

A 38-year-old man was arrested for being in possession of suspected stolen property and will appear in Bethlehem Magistrate court on Monday 12 July 2021.
