An intervention and sweep operation conducted by the Welkom Public Order Policing Reaction Team that aims to prevent drug trafficking and peddling in Mangaung Metro Police Station precincts continues to bear successful results.

On Monday, 11 April 2022 the team was patrolling in Freedom Square Settlement when they were stopped by community members who pointed out a house from where drugs were reportedly sold. The members executed a search at the identified house.

Two males jumped the fence in attempt to evade the police however, quick witted police members gave chase and apprehended the males.

Drugs including Cat, crystal meth and mandrax tablets were found hidden inside the sewage manhole. The 38-year-old male was then arrested for dealing in drugs.

The team again executed a search and seizure warrant that was issued by the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court at a house in Murrison Street, Heidedal.

The 28-year-old male was arrested for possession and dealing of drugs as mandrax tablets were found in his possession. His 31-year-old brother was arrested for obstructing and hindering the police in execution of their duties.

The members also arrested the 40-year-old male for dealing in drugs in Kopanong. The suspect was found in possession of mandrax tablets.

Cases were opened and the confiscated drugs were booked in the Evidence Management System and the suspects are being detained in police custody.

The suspects will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 13 April 2022.
