Thieves raid Heilbron farm: Bludgeon sheep in the herd that could not keep up

Thieves raided the farm of Bertus van der Westhuizen, near Heilbron, in the Free State province on Thursday 12 September 2019. The thieves stole diesel, tools and a herd of sheep and whilst chasing them for a long distance away from the farm, they decided to bludgeon the older and pregnant ewes to death just because they could not keep up. The thieves also cut fences of neighbouring farms along their route. Some of the ewes also died from pure exhaustion.

Police made a breakthrough when they found most of the stolen herd in the Phiritona township at Heilbron. Some of the sheep were found in a kraal in the township and some in a zinc hut.

Police found back 96 sheep and 14 dead ones, whilst the farmer is still missing about another. Police arrested managed to arrest two of the suspected five suspects in this case.
