Two suspects aged between 53 and 38-year-old have been arrested for suspected stolen tyres found in their possession on the N1 during a stop and search operation in two separate incidents.

On Thursday , 10 February 2022 at about 08:00 in the morning, the members of Kroonstad high way patrol, Sergeant Serame Malebo and Constable Mvula Ntema were conducting a stop and search operation on the N1 towards the off-ramp leading to Ultra City.

The members took note of a suspicious white bakkie (Nissan NP 200) that was moving at a slow pace. They further went and stopped it only to find it was loaded with 6 heavy truck tyres. Upon questioning the driver, the members requested for proof of purchase or any documentation as evidence that they were bought and the suspect could not produce any.

The 53-year-old suspect was taken to the police station for further questioning, which is where he confessed that he was hired to load the tyres at Ventersburg and deliver them to Johannesburg.
