On Thursday 28 September 2023 members of Parkweg Visible Policing Unit were busy with Operation Yehlisa and Operation Shanela actions in Generaal De Wet suburb when they spotted a White Honda sedan. The police stopped the vehicle as part of stop-and-search activities at about 13:00.

The members then introduced themselves to the driver and requested his documentation. The 32-year-old foreign national handed an application to extend his visa to the members and the investigative eye of the police noticed that the date on the police stamp was irregular to the original position in which the stamp was placed. The suspect voluntarily agreed to lead the police to the internet cafe where he acquired the affidavit.

The members arrived at Cyberspace A & A internet cafe in Charles Street and found the 48-year-old female, they introduced themselves to her and requested permission to search the shop. A pile of fake asylum seeker temporary visas, photocopies of similar proof of address letters and copies of reproduced affidavits similar to the one seized from the first suspect were found. The 48-year-old foreign national was then arrested for running a clandestine laboratory for printing fraudulent documents and fraud.

The Local Criminal Records Centre personnel and other role players arrived and processed the scene accordingly. Equipment including smartphones, computer boxes and printers used in the laboratory were confiscated. Case dockets were opened at Parkweg police station and the suspects detained in police custody. The suspects will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court soon.
