A 35-year-old man will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, on charges of murder and rape.
Police in Bloemspruit responded to a distress call in the Phomolong Informal Settlement on Sunday, 25 January 2026. At the scene, they found the body of an unidentified female. The victim was undressed, had a swollen face, and visible strangulation marks on her neck.
A murder case with a suspicion of sexual assault was opened. The victim was later identified as 20-year-old Relebohile Makhore from Caleb Motshabi Square. She was last seen leaving Boipatong tavern.
The suspect was arrested on Monday, 26 January 2026, at approximately 09:30
