On 17 March 2019, members of Crime Prevention Unit, Park Road Police Station were busy executing patrols in the Bloemfontein Central Business District when they were stopped by a taxi driver who informed them that there was a male carrying a big traveling bag containing a strange ‘moroho’ at Majakathata taxi rank area.

The Police swiftly responded to the information and at the taxi rank in Power Street found the male with the bag. They then asked for permission to search the bag and the owner agreed. Inside the bag they found KHAT plants.

The Police asked the man if he knew that the plant is a drug and he replied that he sells it to people to make them happy and it gives them strength.

The Police arrested the suspect aged 34 years for being in possession of drugs.

The KHAT plants were weighed and the total weight thereof was 28,7 kilograms, estimated to have the street value of R50 000. The suspect will appear before Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 18 March 2019.
