On 26 March 2024 at about 05:10, members conducted operation “Vala Umgodi” through stop and searches near Maseru Port of Entry when they stopped a male person carrying a bag.
While searching the bag, members found a large sum of money. The male could not give a clear indication of the source and he was arrested for possession of suspected stolen money.
While the members were busy informing him of his arrest he attempted to bribe the arresting officers by offering them R50, 000.00 in exchange for his release. The 38-year-old male was arrested and detained with an additional charge of bribery.
“We commend the team for being this vigilant and not allowing to be corrupted by the suspect.” Said the Acting Provincial Commissioner, Maj Gen Len Singh.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Ladybrand Magistrate’s Court soon.
