On Thursday 15 July 2021, a farmer from Ngakantsi Spoort in Selosesha found that 20 of his cattle were stolen. A case of stock theft was opened for investigation. Park Road Stock Theft unit along with Selosesha Crime Intelligence unit managed to recover eleven cattle abandoned at a grazing camp on Friday 16 July 2021.
Nine are still missing and investigation continues.
In another separate incident the two units were looking for a white Nissan bakkie with a trailer suspected to have been used in transporting suspected stolen stock.
Police spotted the said bakkie around town in Thaba Nchu on Friday 16 July 2021. Upon interrogating the two occupants aged 39 and 43 years respectively led the police to a plot in Bloemspruit.
Upon arrival police found six cattle. Police circulated the brand marks and discovered that they belong to a farmer in Selosesha area. He was contacted and he confirmed to police that six of his cattle were allegedly stolen from a kraal last night.
The two suspects were apprehended for stock theft. They are expected to appear before Thaba Nchu Magistrate Court soon. A white Nissan NP300 Hardbody valued at R 85 000, 00 was confiscated.
“I would like to commend our dedicated members who are have been working hard in Mangaung Metro, to make sure that we are robustly dealing with stock theft for these past few days.” Said the Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Baile Motswenyane.
