FREE STATE — A 25-year-old uncle is scheduled to appear in the Springfontein Magistrate’s Court facing severe rape charges following the alleged early-morning assault of his 22-year-old niece.
The arrest was executed swiftly after the young woman reported the traumatic incident to local authorities, prompting a rapid law enforcement response.
According to the details of the case, the incident occurred on August 3, 2026, at approximately 2:00 a.m. near Whity Dam, an expansive and poorly lit stretch of open veld located between the Williamsville and Maphodi communities.
The victim, who resides in Williamsville, provided investigators with a timeline of the events that led to the attack. She stated that she had spent the evening visiting a well-known local tavern. Later that night, she sought a place to sleep but was reportedly refused accommodation by her boyfriend’s mother.
Her uncle, who is now the primary suspect in the case, intervened and offered to walk her safely home to Williamsville. However, while the two were navigating the dark, open veld, the situation turned violent. The victim alleges that her uncle suddenly grabbed her and raped her without her consent.
Following the formal report, police moved quickly to apprehend the suspect, who is a resident of 1000 Greenfields in Maphodi.
Addressing the developing case, police spokesperson Sgt Sinah Mpakane confirmed the suspect’s arrest and his impending legal proceedings. The 25-year-old remains in custody and will formally face the charges against him when he appears before the Springfontein Magistrate’s Court.
