A coordinated tactical response by the South African Police Service (SAPS) Parkweg Client Service Centre and the Bloemfontein Flying Squad resulted in the rescue of a kidnapped 35-year-old man and the arrest of six suspects during #OperationShanela2 in the early hours of Sunday morning.
At approximately 02:00, Parkweg police members conducting routine patrols in the Lourierpark area observed two stationary silver vehicles bearing Lesotho registration plates. Upon tactical approach by officers, one vehicle fled the scene at high speed. Police immediately intercepted and secured the remaining vehicle, detaining its two occupants.
Members of the Bloemfontein Flying Squad, operating nearby, initiated pursuit of the fleeing vehicle. The suspect vehicle was successfully cornered in an adjacent street, leading to the apprehension of four additional male suspects.
A search of the second vehicle revealed a badly injured 35-year-old male victim. Preliminary investigations indicate the victim was allegedly abducted from his shack in the presence of his family following accusations that he had damaged another individual’s window. He was subsequently subjected to a severe assault by the suspects.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.
All six suspects, ranging in age from 18 to 40, have been formally arrested. They face charges of kidnapping, attempted murder, and malicious damage to property. The two silver vehicles with Lesotho registration plates have been seized as evidence in support of the ongoing investigation.
The suspects are scheduled to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court in the near future.
SAPS commended the swift action and inter-unit coordination that enabled the successful resolution of the incident and the safe recovery of the victim. The investigation remains active as authorities continue to gather evidence and verify the full circumstances surrounding the abduction.
