A rapid response by the South African Police Service (SAPS) Bloemfontein Diving Unit has resulted in the arrest of two men and the recovery of stolen property following an armed robbery near Meadows Road in the Pieter Swarts area.
The incident took place on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, at approximately 14:00. According to a distress call from a 29-year-old male victim, he was cornered and threatened by a group of six unidentified African men, three of whom were armed with knives. The assailants fled the scene with the victim’s personal belongings, which included a pair of tekkies (sneakers), a black backpack, and a long-sleeved top.
Acting swiftly on the report, SAPS divers launched an immediate manhunt for the fleeing group. Their tactical precision led to the successful apprehension of two suspects, aged 29 and 38.
During the arrest, officers recovered the victim’s stolen items. Additionally, authorities confiscated a homemade knife found in the possession of one of the detained men.
Both suspects have been formally charged with robbery with aggravating circumstances and possession of a dangerous weapon. They are scheduled to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court shortly.
