A 30-year-old man is under arrest for unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition, possession of suspected stolen properties and unlawful possession of explosives that were found in his house at Virginia on Sunday, 9 February 2020.

This follows a robbery on the morning of 9 February 2020, at about 10:30 in Linus Liquor Store in Virginia, where an iPhone that belongs to the store owner was also robbed and he managed to track it to that address in Zondereinde Street.

Members who responded found the house with doors opened and they saw suspicious items inside the house. They called for backup and the house was penetrated. The owner of the house was found and he granted permission for the house to be searched.

A getaway vehicle from Linas Liquor store robbery, an Audi A3, various number plates, cigarettes, liquor, jewellery, a Ruger pistol, 7 round live ammunition and magazine, one R5 empty magazine, explosives and cellphones were found and confiscated.

The owner of the house could not provide police with an explanation of these items and he was arrested. The jewellery on the scene was positively identified as the one robbed in Welkom Sterns Jewellery Shop on Saturday 8 February 2020.

Two vehicles an Audi and Toyota bakkie were also seized for being involved in the commission of crime. The suspect will be charged for above mentioned charges and he will appear at Virginia Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 11 February 2020.

Investigation continues as a number of suspects are still at large.
