Rifle stolen in Eastern Cape recovered in Botshabelo

On Thursday 27 January 2022, members of Boithuso Crime Prevention Unit together with Crime Intelligence followed information of man in possession of unlicensed firearm up in Botshabelo F-Section.

The suspect was identified in Jazzman Mokhothu Road and the team approached and searched him.

The information received indicated that the man was on his way to Reahola Complex where he was going to trade the rifle.

A rifle, silencer and sixteen (16) live rounds of ammunition were found in the 28-year-old suspect’s possession. The rifle was seized and the suspect arrested.

It is alleged that the rifle was stolen in Eastern Cape.

A case of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition was opened at Boithuso Police Station.

The suspect will appear in Botshabelo Magistrate Court on Monday, 31 January 2022.
