49-year-old Molahlehi Ramatekwane was handed a life sentence by Edenburg Regional Court when he was found guilty for raping a teenage girl.

On 16 September 2018, at about 19:00 the 14-year-old victim was playing in the street with a ball. On her way home she met the accused who pretended to be playing with the victim before he kicked the ball to a dilapidated house close by.

They both went into the house to look for the ball, that’s when the accused overpowered the victim and raped her. A community member appeared and rescued the victim.

The accused was detained by the community and eventually arrested by the Police.

The DNA results confirmed the incident and the eye witness also gave admissible evidence before the court of law which helped strengthen the case.

Free State Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane commended the bravery and commitment of the eyewitness for giving a water-tight evidence before the court which assisted in ensuring that justice was served for the teenager.
