The accused, Issac Mthenjwa Magagula (33) of Fateng Tse Ntsho near Paul Roux is expected to appear in High Court on trial from 14 to 25 March 2022 for rape and murder of an elderly woman who stayed at Paul Roux Old Age Home during July 2021.

The case will be heard at Ficksburg Magistrate court.

On 12 July 2021 the 77-year-old woman who was staying at Paul Roux Old Age Home was surprised by the accused in her room, who allegedly assaulted, raped and strangled her until she became unconscious.

He took the stove, groceries and clothes of the pensioner and left the crime scene. The suspect was arrested the day after the incident and stolen items seized by police.

She was admitted at a local hospital where she later lost her life. The post-mortem was conducted wherein rape and murder was confirmed.

The accused made several appearances in court and abandoned bail.

He has been charged with house robbery, rape, murder and attempted housebreaking and awaits trial which is set to 14 to 25 March 2022 at Ficksburg Magistrate court.

The case is being investigated by Bethlehem Family, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
