The Stop and Search activity on the N1 Highway which is part of our High Density operations, lead to an arrest of a male aged 50 and recovery of protected species.

On the 23 July 2023 at about 23:00 Trompsburg police members were busy with observation and stop and search activities on the N1 when they tried to stop a white Isuzu bakkie.

The driver ignored the warning to stop and drove recklessly passing other motorists.

A blue light chase ensued and continued until in Edenburg where the suspect was pulled off the road.

Upon realising that he can’t go further, he alighted the vehicle and started running on foot.

The two police officials chased him and arrested him not far away from the vehicle. Bringing him back to the vehicle, members discovered that the suspect was transporting abalone worth an estimated R2 Million.

The suspect was arrested for possession of abalone, failing to adhere to police officers instructions as well as reckless and negligent driving.

He is yet to appear in court soon.
