Mareka Marks Moleme (46) appeared before the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court on 7 March 2022 where he was convicted and sentenced for contravening the Tax Administration Act.

A preliminary probe by the South African Revenue Services (SARS) uncovered Moleme’s fraudulent activities that cost SARS in excess of more than R1 million between 2014 and 2017.

The matter was reported to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team based in Bloemfontein. Moleme was served with summons on 6 November 2020. He appeared in court on several occasions culminating in his recent conviction.

The court sentenced Moleme to five years imprisonment wholly suspended for five years on condition that he repay SARS the amount of R1 million on a monthly instalment of more than R200 000 until the whole amount is fully paid.
