The Hawk’s Serious Corruption Unit has on 12 July 2017 arrested a 36-year-old Department of Public Works official, for alleged fraud and corruption.
It is alleged that the suspect colluded with the service provider and defrauded the Department of R1.4 million through the submission of fraudulent payment claims for a tender that was awarded to the service provider.
The suspect disappeared after hearing that he was wanted by the police and it was suspected that he fled to Lesotho.
After an intelligence search, the man was arrested in Ficksburg after crossing the border from Lesotho. Four cell phones, a passport as well as a vehicle were subsequently seized.
The suspect, who was stationed at Department of Public Works Regional Office in Bloemfontein, will appear before Bloemfontein Commercial Crimes Court on Friday, facing charges of fraud and corruption.
